The Centre Pompidou has completed a ten-day scientific analysis of approximately ten artworks by Henri Matisse, Robert and Sonia Delaunay, and Joan Mitchell to assess material degradation and chemical composition. Led by researchers from France, Belgium, and Italy, the project utilized X-ray fluorescence and infrared spectrometry to study the stability of Matisse’s iconic 1940s gouache cut-outs. The findings will inform conservation strategies and predictive models for the collection's upcoming relocation to the Centre Pompidou Francilien in Massy.
